Animal AbuseAnimal cruelty is against the law in Singapore. SPCA was founded to prevent animal abuse in Singapore and to keep pets that were being thrown out by their own family members, hoping to be able to provide a better home for the stray animals.
Recently there has been a video speculating through the cyber world like youtube, facebook. The video contained abusive scenes which showed a woman hitting a dog repeatedly with her broomstick. Animal abuse still continues despite warning and reminder that it is illegal. Many of the culprits are still anonymous. Animal abuse may have happened for many different reasons. It may be by a group of mischievous teenagers who just wants to have fun, and not thinking of what the animal may have felt. It may also be due to a group of animal owners who just wanted to train and tame their pet. They may be over strict and hence causing animal abuse unknowingly.
I feel that animal abuse is not to be tolerated and those who are caught abusing animals should be fined and sentenced to jail if pleaded guilty and not allowed to be let off easily. Before anyone is allowed to adopt a pet, they should be able to take care of themselves properly. Being able to commit themselves to take care of their pet from day 1 is not an easy job. Thus ultimately, owners should all do their part to take care of their pet and not abuse it. If their own owners do not love their pet, who will?
